This paper informs the descriptive statistics of a sample of male convicts used in the process of standardization in Argentina of the Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R), Second Edition, and to examine the validity of the scale. The sample was made of 154 male offenders, consecutive candidates for conditional release. From September 2001 to September 2004, information collected from multiple sources was included in the baseline assessment. Offenders who had been granted early release were incorporated in a follow-up period with a mean duration of 309 days. The distribution of the PCL-R Total Scores was normal, with a mean of 20.25 (SD = 7.3). Mean score for Factor 1 was 9.33 (SD = 3.59) and for Factor 2 was 9.69 (SD = 4.68). Correlations with several measures related to clinical aspects of psychopathy support the validity of the Argentinean version on the PCL-R. The reliability of the PCL-R is also supported by other local studies.
